Dallas, TX – The downtown Dallas New Year's Day parade kicks off at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. KERA's BJ Austin says the tradition was revived three years ago after the longtime Cotton Bowl parade was cancelled in 1992.

The Comerica Bank New Year's Day Parade theme is "Celebrate Community". Comerica's Bill Palin says it does just that.

Palin: Among the 26 floats that we have are ten floats that are part of a DISD Middle School contest. It's called the Comerica Bank Vote-for-the-Float contest. We also have floats from the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Summer Musicals.

As well as 15 marching bands, including Ole Miss and Texas Tech - which meet in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday. Palin says they have 15 new entries this year, for a total of 70 units in the parade. Kickoff is 2:30 on Ross Avenue in the Arts District to Houston Street.
