Dallas, TX – First Lady Laura Bush's White House spokesperson confirms the President and Mrs. Bush will move to Dallas's Preston Hollow neighborhood next month after Bush leaves office. KERA's Bill Zeeble reports some neighbors will welcome him.
Because George W. Bush's long-time friend Robert McCleskey bought the home at 10141 Daria in Preston Hollow, political watchers speculate that could be the Bush's house. Dan and Laura Boeckman, who have been Republican donors, live there.
Laura Boeckman: I think it's great. It's interesting.
Boeckman didn't say who might move in, but thinks neighbors would warmly receive the Bushes.
Boeckman: I think they have a right to live where they want to live. I'm sure they'll be gracious neighbors and bring security to the neighborhood. And I welcome them if they're really moving here.
Boeckman wasn't alone in her assessment. Louis Weber says he lives a few blocks away, and like many others Thursday, drove by to look at the house. Several dozen cars an hour drove into the cul-de-sac on Thursday before coming back out.
Weber: It doesn't bother me either way. If anything, there will be more police. It will be more secure.
Robert McCleskey bought the home in October for a little more than $2 million, according to Dallas tax records. It sits on more than an acre. The vacant home next door also recently sold for about $1.5 million. The realtor says the buyer of that home remains unknown.
