Dallas, TX – Personal, secure information about University of Texas at Dallas students has been exposed in a computer security breach.
9,100 files in all could have been exposed in the computer breach that UTD officials discovered July 12.
Information that may have been exposed includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, email addresses and phone numbers. More than 4,400 students on the deans list early this decade, and another 4,000 students contacted for a survey six years ago could be directly affected.
University Vice President & Chief Information Officer Dr. Jim Gary apologized, and said the school would never seek to minimize the impact of such an event, but there's no indication that information's been disclosed, disseminated or used to anyone's detriment.
UTD is working to inform anyone who's potentially at risk. The school is working with law enforcement officials to find the cyber attacker.
