American Airlines Expects More Cuts

Dallas, TX – An internal letter from senior Vice President Jeff Brundage indicated system-wide job cuts would total 8 percent. That amounts to nearly 7 thousand employees, which means pilots and transport workers know they'll lose jobs too. As with the flight attendants, voluntary and involuntary furloughs will apply.

The latest furlough announcements could be delivered next week. American says the cuts are a result of a slashed schedule and the need for fewer planes. Those cuts were driven by record high fuel costs that have eaten all of American's profits.
