Dallas, TX – Richardson plans to DOUBLE the number of red light camera intersections in the next 60 days. Assistant City Manager David Morgan says five cameras will go up at three new locations.
David Morgan: We've looked at crash data as well as violation data for those intersections and identified that a camera system at those locations would be very useful.
The new cameras will be installed at Belt Line and Central, Campbell and Central and northbound Jupiter at the Bush Turnpike.
Dallas, meanwhile, is slowing down its red light camera program, putting 3 dozen new cameras ON HOLD. The 60 in place are running a 4.3 million dollar shortfall.
But, Dallas Councilmember Ron Natinsky says public safety trumps a budget deficit, and the program is working. Richardson's David Morgan says their program is structured to be revenue neutral, and they've covered operating costs, so far.
