The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

A funeral service will be held Thursday morning for Dallas Police officer Earl "Jamie" Givens.

The Senior Corporal was on duty escorting a funeral procession for a fellow officer last Sunday when he was struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver. Givens was a 32-year veteran with the department, and most recently served with the motorcycle unit.

Other stories this morning:

  • Some members of the Texas business community have filed a brief opposing the state attorney general's lawsuit to end DACA. The Dallas Morning News reports Southwest Airlines, some Texas Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, as well as businesses and business associations argue rescinding DACA would cost the state more than $6 billion in economic activity during the next decade.

  • Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has doubled down on insisting that his players stand for the national anthem, saying he wouldn't support anyone who chose to stay in the locker room. Jones said, "Our policy is that you stand at the anthem, toe on the line." The league and the players' union agreed last week to suspend the rule approved by owners this spring that gave players the option of staying in the locker room while allowing teams to discipline players who took a knee or sat during the anthem.

  • Santos Rodriguez was just 12 years old when he was murdered by a Dallas cop in the backseat of a police car. A new documentary “Santos Vive” marks the 45th anniversary of that day, and this week our Big Screen team talks with its director.
