President Obama's Basketball Jersey On The Block At Dallas-Based Heritage Auctions

Heritage Auctions via Associated Press
Heritage Auctions is auctioning off a Punahou High School basketball jersey worn by former student Barack Obama.

Heritage Auctions has a collectible sports jersey up for auction through Saturday. As of Friday afternoon the bid was up to $62,500.

Sports junkies and certain political gurus might be equally interested in this one.

President Barack Obama was famous for his pick-up games, but there was a time he played on a state championship basketball team; and what's believed to be his high school jersey is now up for bid at Dallas-based Heritage Auctions.

A fellow student at Punahou School — a prestigious Honolulu prep school — grabbed the jersey back when it was destined for the trash. Peter Noble was three years behind Barack Obama.

Heritage Auctions says the jersey perfectly matches a yearbook photograph of Obama in uniform, down to the size label and a few small stains.

The future president wore the number 23 — just like Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Results of the auction will be announced Sunday.
