Top Stories: Finding And Keeping Affordable Housing In North Texas Is Tough

The top local stories this afternoon from KERA News: Nonprofit leaders in North Texas say there are just too many people competing for too few affordable apartments. Finding and keeping housing is hard for low-income families.

As KERA’s Courtney Collins reports, that explains why eviction is a leading cause of homelessness.

  • State budget officials are worried about potential multi-billion dollar losses in major court cases. That includes an expected ruling by the Texas Supreme Court on how the state funds schools.
  • Nearly a dozen Red Cross shelters have opened in the Houston area to help hundreds of flood evacuees after storms have dumped more than a foot of rain. In North Texas, a shelter remained open on Tuesday in Weatherford following flooding in Parker County.
