The top stories this afternoon from KERA News: Rick Perry is no longer facing the indictments that dogged him as he ran for president. The state’s highest criminal court today dismissed the second and final felony charge against the former Texas governor: an abuse-of-power charge.

Across Texas, insurgent Republicans who rode Tea Party anger to the statehouse in Austin are now facing challenges themselves. That’s the dynamic in East Tarrant County, where state Representative Jonathan Stickland and challenger Scott Fisher are racing toward the March 1 primary.

Other stories this evening:

  • Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his endorsement of Ted Cruz for president in Houston on Wednesday. Cruz and Abbott go back several years – Cruz served as solicitor general when Abbott was Texas Attorney General.
