From The Newsroom: Tornado First Responder Reflects; Ellsworth Kelly's Dallas Impact

The top local stories this evening from the KERA Newsroom: A group of federal and state officials, including Senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz, toured Rowlett on Wednesday.

They witnessed some of the damage left by tornadoes that killed 11 people and damaged nearly 2,000 homes over the weekend.

On the night when the damage was fresh, it was up to first responders - police, firefighters and paramedics  to get folks out of harm's way. One Garland firefighter is still catching his breath.

The Associated Press is reporting that Tonya Couch, 'affluenza' teen Ethan Crouch's mother, has been deported from Mexico and is headed back home to Fort Worth. Lawyers for the family filed a legal writ in a Mexican court to delay 18-year-old Ethan's deportation. He and his mom were arrested Monday.

Anyone who’s strolled through the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas knows the work of artist Ellsworth Kelly. Giant panels of blue, green, black and red bring vibrant hues to a biscuit-colored entry hall.

Kelly, one of the great 20th century American artists, died Sunday at age 92. Gavin Delahunty, senior curator at the Dallas Museum of Art, talked about the artist’s legacy in North Texas.
