From The Newsroom: Trying To Redesign Foster Care; Best Books From North Texas

The top local stories this evening from the KERA Newsroom: A federal judge ruled Thursday that the foster-care system is broken in Texas. 

KERA’s Christopher Connelly checks in with the Fort Worth non-profit that’s developing a model it hopes will help redesign the system.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra announced a move Friday to raise its national and global profile. Starting in January, 13 DSO concerts from this past season will be aired through WFMT Radio Network in Chicago and Shanghai Classical in China. 

The broadcasts will be hosted by Wade Goodwyn, a familiar voice to our listeners. He’s the NPR national correspondent based in Dallas.

One of the most interesting books this year from a North Texas author was a history of love songs. That’s not the only noteworthy happening, though.
