Ebola In Dallas: A Timeline

The Ebola virus has dominated the news in North Texas since it was announced on Sept. 29 that a man at a Dallas hospital might have the deadly disease. On Sept. 30, medical tests confirmed that Thomas Eric Duncan had the Ebola virus.

He died before 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. On Oct. 12, officials announced a Presbyterian health care worker who treated Duncan had tested positive for Ebola. Nina Pham was in isolation at Presbyterian, then transferred to a facility in Maryland. She was released and is now Ebola-free. Another nurse, Amber Joy Vinson, also tested positive on Oct. 15. She was moved to Emory University Hospital. She was released and is now Ebola-free.

Here's a look at some of the main events over the past several weeks. Hover over the right-hand side of the timeline to advance it.

Federal health officials like Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control, have said the key to stopping the Ebola outbreak is to stopping the spread in West Africa.

More than 4,500 people have died from the virus since the outbreak. PBS Frontline has an interactive map documenting the cases of Ebola around the world.

Health officials have stated repeatedly that contact tracing is a major component of containing the spread of Ebola. The CDC updates contact tracing numbers daily at noon. Check here for the latest totals
