The Dallas school district is the second largest district in the state – but it boasts the highest graduation rate for big city schools in the state.

The Houston Chronicle reports DISD’s graduation rate for 2013 was almost 85 percent – lower than the state average of 88 percent – but it edged out Austin to take the top spot for big city schools. The data comes from the Texas Education Agency’s annual report on graduation rates and dropout data.

The dropout rate for Dallas ISD was 8.8 percent, higher than the state average of 6.6 percent. The gap in graduation rates between Caucasians, African-Americans, and Hispanics is closing, but still exists.
