Fort Worth, TX – Drew Mays, the father of 4 with his wife and children rooting from the TCU balcony, ended the week-long event sponsored by the Van Cliburn Foundation with contest-winning Beethoven and Lizst. He pursued piano in college, then dropped it for medical school to earn a living. But 5 years ago,the piano called him back. With 2 sons at his side, he said he worked hard to get here.

Drew Mays: I can't believe it yet. Son: Wake up.
Mays: That's right. when am I going to wake up from this pleasant dream? I saw Cliburn play when I was 11 years old. I was totally inspired. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought of shaking his hand on the same stage 35 years later!

Zeeble: Mays won 2 thousand dollars, cowboy boots and spurs, and a recital on each coast. For KERA 90.1 I'm Bill Zeeble.
