Top Stories: Teen Actors Head To NRA Convention; Remembering Margaret McDermott

The top local stories this evening from KERA News: The National Rifle Association's annual convention opens Thursday night in downtown Dallas. Teen actors from Dallas are among the NRA's newest members – and they’re heading to the convention. 

The group's called Cry Havoc Theater Company and the Art&Seek team has been following them as they research gun violence for a new play. As Hady Mawajdeh reports, guns have touched the actors’ own lives.

  • Margaret McDermott, one of Dallas' leading philanthropists, has died. She was 106.  “The canvas for Margaret McDermott was the entire city,” says Gail Thomas, the retired head of the Trinity Trust and a longtime friend of McDermott. “Amazingly, in some way, she has helped every non-profit in this town.” Learn more from Art&Seek's Jerome Weeks.
