Five stories that have North Texas talking: North Texas stars in Andrew Zimmern’s TV show tonight; it’s going to get really cold tonight; Dallas' Jordan Spieth came close to winning the Masters; and more.
Back in December, Andrew Zimmern, the TV guy who loves to eat strange food, ate his way through North Texas – and tonight we get to see the results of his adventure. Bizarre Foods Americaairs at 8 p.m. Monday on the Travel Channel. Travel Channel declares: “Andrew Zimmern explores the bold, traditional and unexpected flavors of Dallas and Fort Worth … He samples cow head roasted underground, a Thai meal made with chicken feet, water bugs and goat meat stew.” Monday’s episode is titled: “Dallas: Red Meat and Rattlesnakes.” Last December, we told you that Zimmern visited Fort Worth’s Revolver Taco Lounge and Chicken Scratch and Lockhart Smokehouse in Dallas, among others. He liked what he saw – and what he ate. He posted several updates on Twitter, saying Revolver Taco was “beyond amazing … superb Michoacan food.” And “Ash salsa, guajillo, verde … Crisped sweetbreads and smoked beef links @ Chicken Scratch.”
- Dallas’ Jordan Spieth came close to a Masters championship over the weekend. CBSSports.com reports: “For a short while, it seemed likely that 20-year-old Spieth would become the youngest Masters champion in history. It wasn't to be, however, as Bubba Watson outdueled the recent teenager to win his second Masters championship. The two entered the final round tied at 5-under, but Watson shot 69 to Spieth's 72. Jonas Blixt finished alongside Spieth in second place at 5-under.” NPR has this roundup.
- After Sunday’s round of storms, expect a dramatic temperature change. It will be windy and cool Monday, with highs only in the 50s -- about 20 degrees below normal. By Monday night, temperatures will plunge into the 30s across most of North Texas. A freeze is possible across parts of the area – and frost is likely, too. The National Weather Service encourages residents to start planning to protect “tender vegetation.” A wind advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Monday for North Texas.
