The State Department has collected essays of 15 top authors on what it means to be an American writer. The anthology, aimed at promoting American values abroad, will be distributed free at U.S. embassies worldwide. An anti-propaganda law makes it illegal to disseminate the works in the United States, but they are available on a government Web site aimed at foreign audiences. Gunman Kills 6 At Wisconsin Sikh Temple
Authorities say a gunman shot and killed six people at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Sunday, before he was killed by a police officer. Four people were wounded. President Obama vowed to provide necessary support to investigate the shooting.

Park Service Cleans Up Eggs In Death Valley
Tourists have been flocking to Death Valley for the 100th anniversary of the hottest day ever recorded there, or anywhere else on earth for that matter. They've been frying eggs on the pavement. For a proper fried egg, the Park Service says use a skillet and use a lid to keep in the moisture.
