NASA launches its probe to Europa, an icy moon of Jupiter
NASA has just launched a mission to investigate a far-off world that's full of water. It's going to Europa, a moon of Jupiter that's made of lots of ice that covers a huge ocean.

Iceland Volcano
- Since September 30th, a volcano has been erupting beneath a glacier in southeastern Iceland. The subsequent heat has melted parts of the ice cap, sparking fears of massive flooding in the region. Jackie speaks with NPR's David Baron, who reports from a road overlooking the potential floodplain.
Vatnagokull
Iceland is preparing for a massive flood of ice and water that is expected to burst out of Europe's largest glacier. The impending flood is the result of the heat from a volcano that recently erupted beneath the glacier. NPR's David Baron reports that Icelanders are used to natural disasters, and are facing the coming deluge with a mixture of stoicism and defiance.

Climate change researcher Paul Mayewski
An expert in climate change research, Paul Mayewski led the National Science Foundation's Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2. The project extracted ice cores chronicling 100,000 years of climate history. Mayewski, with co-author Frank White, writes about their expeditions in the new book, The Ice Chronicles: The Quest to Understand Global Climate Change (University Press of New England). Mayewski is also co-director of the Institute of Quaternary and Climate Studies at the University of Maine.
Winter Wonderland? Not In New England
Unseasonable temperatures and lack of snow have a lot of New Englanders singing the blues. In Maine, snowmobiling, ice fishing and Nordic skiing are a big part of the winter economy. Downhill ski areas are making due with man-made snow, but those other industries have no choice but to wait for Mother Nature.

Zamboni Driver Arrested For DUI At N.D. Rink
The driver was treating the ice at a girls hockey game in Fargo when spectators noticed his driving was erratic. He slammed the big machine into the boards. No one was on the ice at the time.
