North Texas is a battleground for pro and anti-fracking camps -- especially Denton, where residents have signed a petition to ban fracking in the city. Russell Gold, author of The Boom: How Fracking Ignited the American Energy Revolution and Changed the World, will speak with KERA's Krys Boyd today at noon on "Think" to talk about the process and future of fracking.

Americans consume more energy per person than any other industrialized nation in the world. Now, according to Gold, Wall Street Journal's senior energy correspondent, we have the opportunity to produce a lot of that energy within the United States instead of depending so heavily on imported oil. He explains in this video and his new book.

"What keeps me up at night is the realization that we’re at a turning point," he told San Antonio's Rivard Report last month. "If we negotiate this energy transition adroitly, we can create a future of abundant, low-carbon energy. That’s exciting. If we fail, we’re in big trouble."
