KERA, the public media service for North Texas, is revamping its weekday television schedule starting March 30 to serve pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade students who are learning at home during the COVID-19 crisis.
The programs will air on KERA-Channel 13 and will stream on KERA.org/Learn. The website includes a number of resources that — along with such TV shows as Cyberchase, History Detectives and American Experience — are aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards.
The weekday television lineup is segmented by target grades:
- 6-8 a.m. - Programs for kids in pre-K to 3rd grade.
- 8 a.m.-2 p.m. - 4th through 8th-graders.
- 2-6 p.m. - 9th through 12th graders.
“North Texas families have relied on KERA for educational support for nearly 60 years,” KERA President and CEO Nico Leone says. “As school closures present new challenges for children and educators alike, KERA is excited to expand our services, both on the air and online, and turn every home into a classroom.”
