Cities across North Texas are marking this Veterans Day with parades honoring service men and women.
In Dallas, the annual Veterans Day parade is honoring the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of France, which helped lead to the defeat of Nazi Germany. It begins with a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday in front of City Hall, where military vehicles and equipment will be on display. Then, the parade makes its way through downtown, starting at the intersection of Houston and Young streets.
Several downtown Dallas streets will be closed to traffic beginning Monday morning to accommodate the parade route. Traffic on surrounding streets will also be affected during and after the parade.
And in downtown Fort Worth, the Tarrant County Veterans Day Parade will feature more than 5,000 participants, including veterans, active military, school bands and local civic organizations. The parade begins at 11 a.m. at the steps of the Tarrant County Courthouse at Main and Weatherford streets and processes around Sundance Square. Download a map here.
Gov. Greg Abbott will be in Fredericksburg on Monday, speaking at a Veterans Day ceremony hosted by the National Museum of the Pacific War.
