President Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that the United States will formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
He said he's directing the State Department to begin the long process of moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Before his announcement, Trump said "many presidents have said they want to do something and they didn't do it."
Mideast leaders say Trump's decision could lead to violent protests and complicate Mideast peace efforts.
