Rep. Diane Patrick Files Bill To Reduce Number of Student Tests

State Rep. Diane Patrick, an Arlington Republican, has filed school legislation that would reduce the number of end-of-course exams from 15 to 3.

In addition those exams could not be used for class rank or Texas college admissions.  Test results tied to student graduation would also change.

Rep. Patrick told KERA she’s concerned excessive testing and the way  test results are used will lead to students becoming discouraged and dropping out.

The bill is co-sponsored by San Antonio Democrat Leticia Van de Putte in the Senate.
