Texas is still in drought conditions, with 21 percent of the state in the worst two stages of drought.

While Texas continues to experience a three-year drought, maintaining a green lawn or a flourishing garden can be a daunting task. Today at noon on 'Think', we'll be speaking with Noelle Johnson, a horticulturalist with Birds and Blooms magazine about drought-resistant gardening.

Texas has been officially been in a state of drought since October 2010 according to StateImpact Texas. While some rain has alleviated its effects, as of June 2014, 70 percent of the state is still in drought conditions with 21 percent being in the worst two stages of drought.

So, with less water available, it's become increasingly difficult to your garden green. That's where Johnson comes in to give you handy tips on how to save and harvest water to keep your garden growing to its fullest potential.

On her blog, Johnson has tips on how to harvest water that includes using a cistern to keep a fresh supply of water available.

She also provides ten ways to save water if you're living in a place with severe drought conditions.

Johnson is a horticulturalist, certified arborist, freelance writer and speaker living in Arizona who specializes in urban horticulture and managing landscapes.

Listen to Think, Monday through Thursday at noon and 9 p.m., on KERA 90.1 FM or stream live.
