On a historic inauguration day, KERA checked in with a Dallas high school class, where Vice President Harris stole the show.
A few hours after the live inauguration, students in Dallas ISD’s Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet met for their Zoom class.
The outdoor event in front of what had been a besieged U.S. Capitol just two weeks ago made a defiant difference to William Taylor.
“The inauguration was held outside instead of inside,” William said, “To show [the] domestic terrorists, that they are not afraid — that the people have spoken.”
Classmate Danya Garcia said she was inspired by what she could achieve, especially since Vice President Harris is the first woman in that office and the first vice president of color.
“It shows a glimmer of hope to people like me who live in a household where my parents speak predominantly Spanish and they don't know a whole lot of English," Dayna said."That I could even hold a position like that.”
