Dallas Students Celebrate Martin Luther King's Legacy At Annual Oratory Competition

Foley Gardere Oratory Competition

Students from Dallas Independent School District competed Friday in the annual Foley Gardere Oratory Competition that honors Martin Luther King Jr. The finalists — fourth and fifth graders — delivered speeches answering the question: "What would Dr. King's vision be for America in 2020?"

The competition was designed to recognize and encourage the writing and oratory skills of elementary students while teaching them about King's life and legacy. Watch the speaches from the students who placed in the top three.

Colin Harris

First place winner Colin Harris is in fifth grader at J.P. Starks Math, Science and Technology Vanguard. 

Dominic Patermo

Second place winner Dominic Patermo is in fourth grade at Harry C. Withers Elementary School.

Jasira King

Third place winner Jasira King is in fifth grader at William Brown Miller Elementary School. Jasira won first place in last year's competition.
