The wait is over.

The Lake Highlands Alamo Drafthouse is opening Tuesday, March 20. The newest location of the Austin-based, eat-while-you-watch movie theater chain, known for its curated previews, specialty screenings and thematic food and drinks, is the third for Dallas-Fort Worth.

Plans were first announced in the summer of 2016.

The multiplex is in Dallas’ Creekside Shopping Center at the corner of Skillman and Abrams. In a press release, Alamo says it’s a bike-friendly theater that backs up to the White Rock Trail. The location also includes Vetted Well, a bar and event space for 150 people with a patio overlooking the trail.

Tuesday will be a soft opening; the theater will celebrate the official grand opening on March 28 with the Steven Spielberg film, “Ready Player One.” There will be retro arcade games, virtual reality demos, an ‘80s DJ and a special food and drink menu inspired by the film.

Free parking is available in the shopping center lot, and there will be bike racks galore.

Waiting over a year and a half for Lake Highlands was pretty hard. Fortunately, moviegoers in Las Colinas and Denton won't have to wait too much longer for their very own Alamos.

The Las Colinas outlet should open in April in the Toyota Music Factory complex, GuideLive reports. Denton’s theater at Rayzor Ranch is set for a June debut.

Three new Alamos in three months — that’s a considerably faster pace. The first location in Richardson opened in August 2013, followed by the Cedars in early 2016.

Tickets for Lake Highlands screenings will be on sale soon, Alamo says.
