Dallas, TX – Williamson, who was 55, died Sunday, from his 3rd hrt attack. In a June article for Texas Monthly, he said doctors told him after 2 previous attacks, the 3rd would kill him. As Transportation Chair, Williamson pushed hard for toll roads in Texas, to pay for and build them faster. He also favored contracts going to foreign construction companies like Cintra, from Spain. After protests from legislators this summer, the State highway 121 contract eventually went to the North Texas tollway authority. Governor Perry said he and Anita were heartbroken at the sudden loss of a confidant, trusted advisor and close personal friend of more than 20 years. He will be missed beyond words. The Abilene native lived in Weatherford, having served in the Texas Legislature from 1985 to 1998.
Governor Perry appointed him to the Transportation Commission in 2001, then made him chairman 4 years ago.
A memorial service for Williamson is planned for this Thursday afternoon at 3, at Weatherford HIGH SCHOOL . Bill Zeeble KERA news.
