Dallas, TX – Dallas Police Association president Glenn White says his union - the largest among Dallas police groups - has never endorsed anyone this far ahead before. But he says the Dallas County jail is poorly run, and officers need Lowell Cannaday, who has the experience and integrity to fix it.

Glenn White, Dallas Police Association president: Unfortunately there's a bigger revolving door there than at some shopping centers. We see people we place in jails there back out the next day.

Zeeble: Cannaday's been a Dallas police officer, Irving Police Chief and city council member. He expects to face incumbent Sheriff Lupe Valdez, who also has to beat any Democratic primary opponents. KERA contacted Sheriff Valdez for a response, and her campaign issued this statement. Quote - Dallas County voters elected Lupe Valdez to clean up the Sheriff's Department and bring new & ethical leadership to Dallas County Law Enforcement. Lowell Cannaday's campaign is an effort to reverse this call for change and turn back the clock to bad management and crony politics. Sheriff Valdez has won the endorsement of well over 1-hundred Dallas leaders, residents, and elected officials.

Dallas County Democratic and Republican parties say they expect both Valdez and Cannaday will face opponents in the primaries. Bill Zeeble KERA news.
