House Overrides Presidential Veto 321 to 54

By Shelley Kofler

Dallas, TX – Dallas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson this afternoon took a lead role in the House of Representatives overriding the President's veto of the Water Resources Development Act.

That vote was especially important to Dallas because the bill contains some $298 million for flood control in the Dallas Trinity River Corridor. That money would have been lost if the veto had not been overridden.

House Members voted 361 to 54 against the President. The bill now goes to the Senate.

Congresswoman Johnson's office tells KERA she expects Senators to also override the veto and keep in tact funding for raising the Trinity levees, and for drainage and recreation.
