Dallas – Dallas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson today said she will actively campaign to defeat the November ballot referendum that would kill a high speed toll road inside the Trinity River levee.
Johnson is the highest ranking Texan on the House Transportation Committee. She says the toll road is needed to relieve traffic congestion near downtown Dallas.
Her support for the toll road came as her initiative to pay for flood control along the Trinity faces a vote in the U.S. Senate.
Sound: ( Johnson explains the Water Resources Development Act includes $298 million dollars for improved levees and flood control along the Trinity River in Dallas. )
If the Senate approvs the flood control money the measure would then go to the President. Cong. Johnson says some of the flood control money could become available next month, and it would not be forfeited by the toll road vote in November.
