Dallas, TX – Tomorrow, the Dallas school district will hold a job fair for employees being terminated because of the district's restructuring plan.
School officials late this afternoon told KERA approximately 100 employees have been notified that they won't be retained in their current positions.
The job fair tomorrow is an opportunity to apply for other district positionsthat remain open.
The head of the local chapter of the Texas State Teachers Association says there was a perception the restructuring would primarily eliminate high level administrative positions, but the district confirms other types of employees are also losing their jobs, including teachers, custodians, and clerical workers.
School district spokesman Jon Dahlander says the restructuring plan always called for considering all job categories
The district has asked those being terminated to sign a waiver stating they will not pursue any claims against the district. Once they sign that waiver they are entitled to 45 days pay and outplacement services.
The Texas State Teacher's Association says its attorneys are looking at the legality of some terminations. It's Dallas director says new jobs would have been easier to find if employees were let go before the start of school.
