Dallas, TX – Bill Zeeble, reporter: Earlier this month, commissioners provided a tax freeze on property owned by seniors. They then cancelled the exemption eliminating taxes on a home's first 69 thousand dollars. But now, senior owners will have both, according to Commissioner Maurine Dickey, who said some property owners worried they would get taxed out of their home.

Dickey: We needed a freeze cause that really hits the middle class the most. And we needed to thave the 69 thousand reinstated because that hits people the most in the lower socio-economic area. This provides tax fairness across the board.

Zeeble: Dickey says roughly 100 thousand Dallas homeowners could be affected next year. Some Commissioners worried that county income will drop, adding that many older & wealthier property owners can easily afford property taxes. They approved the exemption anyway. Bill Zeeble KERA news.
