Dallas, TX –
Winning 53 percent of straight ticket votes, Democrats took the top county job. Jim Foster will be the new Dallas County Judge at the commissioner's court.
"I think it's been a long time coming and I think that it's time for change in Dallas County, and we're going to return Dallas County government back to a government of the people, by the people, and for the people for the first time in a long time."
Defeated Republican incumbent Margaret Keliher said Dallas County voters made a mistake:
"You still put a lot of faith into the voters, that they'll vote an educated vote. I don't think this was an educated vote."
At Dallas Democratic headquarters, county party chair Darlene Ewing was elated:
"I gotta tell ya, people kept asking me for weeks, 'how we doin? how we doin? how we doin?' In my dreams this is what I thought would happen and 28 it did."
Democrats also won Dallas District Clerk, County Clerk, and County Treasurer races. Commissioner Ken Mayfield was the only Republican in a contested county race to keep his seat though the majority of state house districts in Dallas County remain under GOP control.
