Dallas, TX –

KERA has been presenting candidate interviews and campaign speeches as part of our Voters Voice 2006 coverage of the Texas gubernatorial primaries. Among the Republican candidates, incumbent Governor Rick Perry declined KERA's request for campaign-related interviews until after the primaries. Rhett Smith said yes. He has current campaign and the number of votes he won in previous races met KERA's standards for inclusion in our election coverage.

Smith, a former accountant and current private security guard, previously ran for mayor of San Antonio and as a Democrat against congressman Lamar Smith.
