The Texas Supreme Court has ruled the use of local property taxes to pay for public schools amounts to an unconstitutional statewide property tax. So, the state legislature has to come up with a new system by June 1st. When lawmakers meet in special session on the issue next year, House Education Committee chair Kent Grusendorf of Arlington says there'll be several possibilites to consider, including raising the cap on assessing local property taxes. But the one he views likely to happen is a familiar plan.
