Red Cross needs volunteers to help local Katrina evacuees
Dallas, TX –
Many of the Hurricane Katrina evacuees registered at local shelters don't actually sleep there. Local government, organizations, and individual citizens have come through with offers of housing. But the shelters still remains point central for many of the evacuees' needs. Meeting those needs requires a great deal of manpower. That job has fallen to the American Red Cross. Cheryl Sutterfield-Jones is CEO of the Dallas Area Chapter. She said the organization is providing for evacuees here and anywhere else they've been taken in the U-S.
