TX Sen. Armbrister Proposes Allowing Video Lottery Terminals

Dallas, TX –

State lawmakers have filed more than a dozen bills this session to expand gambling in Texas. One comes from State Senator Ken Armbrister. The Democrat from Victoria wants to allow video lottery terminals - or VLTs - at licensed racetracks and Indian reservations, and in gaming districts created by counties with voter approval. Much of the state's share of the revenue would go to school property tax relief. Counties and cities in the gaming districts would share 4% of the proceeds, but cities and counties not in the districts could use a small portion set aside for property tax relief, water infrastructure, transportation and or health care services. All 254 Texas counties could vote to create gaming districts, but Armbrister expects a much lower number.
