McClendon seeks halt of Redistricting

Austin, TX – Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon's motion that the House Redistricting Committee not consider congressional redistricting and adjourn, seconded by Rep. Richard Raymond, has just failed in committee by a 4-8-1 vote. Voting aye: Reps. Raymond, McClendon, Kino Flores and Mike Villarreal. Voting no: Reps. Joe Crabb, Kent Grusendorf, Carl Isett, Robert Talton, Phil King, Mike Krusee, Kenneth Marchant, Geanie Morrison. Present but not voting: Rep. Vilma Luna. Absent - Reps. Ron Wilson and Jim Pitts. She based her motion on the overwhelming objection to taking up congressional redistricting as expressed by citizens at hearings througout the state last week.
