Austin, TX – Sen. John Whitmire Tuesday suspended the Senate layout rules so that bills filed for Intent Calendar by today's deadline can be heard Wednesday, instead of Thursday as provided by the two-day layout rule. This also means all bills on Intent today that have only been on Intent one day can be heard today instead of having to wait until tomorrow. Whitmire said this will allow for more non-controversial and/or local bills to be heard. It will not, however, affect the rule that a member can have only five bills on Intent at one time.
