Just days after naming an acting superintendent, the DeSoto school board has scheduled a special meeting on Sunday to consider taking back the agreement.
Last weekend, the DeSoto school board accepted the resignation of superintendent D’Andre Weaver and named Don Hooper the district’s acting superintendent.
Soon after the appointment, old social media posts from Hooper surfaced that contained racist overtones. He apologized.
The agenda for Sunday’s meeting includes an item that calls for rescinding Hooper’s appointment.
The agenda also includes a separate personnel matter: rescinding the acceptance of Weaver’s resignation. He’d led the financially-strapped district through two years of teacher furloughs, school closures, and academic struggles.
On Thursday, Weaver told The Dallas Morning News he never signed the board’s resignation agreement, so he still considered himself the district’s leader.
That comes as the Texas Education Agency named a former deputy commissioner as DeSoto’s new conservator.
The TEA did not respond to KERA’s requests for comment as of Thursday evening.
