The New Year will bring a mix of wintry precipitation to parts of North Texas.
Areas west of Dallas-Fort Worth will see the worst. A winter storm warning is in effect through Thursday afternoon for counties to the west of Dallas-Fort Worth – towns under the warning include Graham, Mineral Wells, Stephenville and Comanche.
A winter weather advisory is also in effect through Thursday afternoon for the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, including Dallas, Tarrant, Denton and Collin counties.
There's a 40 percent chance of a wintry mix in parts of Dallas-Fort Worth tonight. Temperatures in North Texas should dip into the low 30s tonight.
A mix of freezing rain and sleet is expected later tonight and into early New Year's Day, the National Weather Service says. Freezing rain and sleet are possible in Dallas-Fort Worth, but the worst of it will fall west of the metro.
Areas from Bowie to Mineral Wells to Stephenville to Comanche could see “significant ice accumulations” late tonight. That could cause travel problems on Interstate 20 west of Weatherford.
Areas southeast of Dallas/Fort Worth could see rain.
