59-year-old Jeffrey Maxwell has been sentenced to life in prison for the kidnap and torture of his former Parker County neighbor.
A jury in Weatherford deliberated less than an hour before deciding on life. Maxwell will be eligible for parole in 60 years. He was convicted of abducting his former neighbor, taking her to his Corsicana home, and holding her for two weeks. She testified he whipped and sexually assaulted her on a deer-skinning device. She was rescued when police arrived at his home to question him about her disappearance.

Fort Worth Mayor Prepares First "State of City"
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price delivers her first State of the City address Thursday, but it won’t be your typical speech. Mayor Price plans a question and answer session with a sold out crowd at the Fort Worth Convention Center. She says she wants to listen as much as talk.
But she does have some key points she’ll deliver. They include urban development, transportation, education and a healthy city. She’ll also talk about getting involved in the future of Fort Worth.
Mayor Price says she plans to issue a call to action, asking her audience, “What are you going to do for your city this year?”

Fort Worth ISD Employees Like Early Departure Offer
Fort Worth School District officials say 301 employees have taken advantage of the District’s Early Notification Incentive. That’s a payment of as much as 10% of employees annual salaries if they tell the district sooner-rather-than-later they plan to resign or retire at the end of this school year.
The idea is to enable the district to minimize the number of layoffs that may be needed next year because of reduced state funding. The deadline to take advantage of the program is February 29th.

Voter Registration Confusion
County election officials want to calm concerns about voter registration and the delayed Texas primaries. The mailing of renewal voter registration certificates is delayed throughout the State of Texas due to ongoing litigation regarding state redistricting plans.
Tarrant County officials say there’s a rumor that if a voter registration certificate has expired, the holder is not a valid voter and must re-register. Officials say that is not true. They say an expired voter registration certificate does not invalidate the voter’s registration.
