Dallas Officer Moves Out Of Apartment Complex Where She Killed Neighbor

Sep 17, 2018

A white Dallas police officer has moved out of the apartment complex where she shot and killed her black neighbor inside his own home.

WFAA-TV reported that apartment staff informed other residents of 30-year-old Amber Guyger's move in an email Sunday. It's unclear if she left of her own accord or was evicted.

Guyger shot and killed 26-year-old Botham Jean earlier this month. She lived in the unit directly below Jean in South Side Flats in Dallas.

Guyger told investigators she mistook Jean's apartment for her own and that she thought she was being burglarized. She was booked on a preliminary manslaughter charge.

Meanwhile, demonstrators protested Jean's death Sunday outside AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Demonstrators marched outside the stadium, where the Dallas Cowboys hosted the New York Giants, and called for firing Guyger and charging her with murder.

Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson has said the case will be presented to a grand jury, which could determine stronger charges for Guyger.

The protest outside the stadium was the latest since Jean’s death on Sept. 6. There also have been demonstrations outside Dallas police headquarters and at a City Council meeting.

Jean's funeral was held Thursday.
