The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Commemorations were held throughout the weekend to honor the five officers killed last July in a deadly police shooting in downtown Dallas.

Friday marked the one-year anniversary. On Friday night, people gathered downtown at Dallas City Hall Plaza to remember the fallen officers. KERA’s Stella Chavez talked with some of those at “Tribute 7/7.”

Other stories this morning:

  • Concerns about exposure to lead have made news before – most recently water in Flint, Michigan and ground contamination in Frisco. New research by the Environmental Defense Fund using federal data found detectable levels of lead in 20 percent of baby food samples. KERA’s Sam Baker talked about this with Dr. Shannon Rickner, a toxicologist with the North Texas Poison Center at Parkland Hospital. They began with how lead may have gotten into baby food to begin with.
