John Hancock and Logan Dorsey celebrate as Fox News predicts Donald Trump will win Louisiana.

The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Republican Donald Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton for the presidency. Trump made sure Texas stayed America's largest red state, easily locking up its 38 electoral votes.

The excitement at the Dallas County GOP watch party cranked up a notch each time a state was called for Donald Trump. Democrats gathered on election night hoped for a big Hillary Clinton win, but as the night wore on, that optimism dwindled.

Other stories this morning:

  • There were some bright spots for Dallas County Democrats. Both Democratic county commissioners held their seats, including John Wiley Price. County Sheriff Lupe Valdez was re-elected with a 22-point lead.
  • In the House District 107 race, Republican incumbent Kenneth Sheets fell to Democratic challenger Victoria Neave by fewer than 900 votes. This was the state’s most expensive House race.
  • The hottest local election was in Arlington. Voters approved a plan to use local tax dollars to pay for half of a billion dollar ballpark with a retractable roof for the Texas Rangers.
  • Other local elections included a proposition in Dallas to reduce retirement benefits for future city civilian employees hired after January 1st. It passed with almost 70 percent of the vote.
  • In the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district, voters narrowly approved a tax ratification election that would raise the overall tax rate by 11 cents, generating 17 million dollars for the district.
