Taylor Swift during her 1989 tour. Costumes, photos and instruments from her various tours will be on display during the fair.

Five stories that have North Texas talking: The Taylor Swift Experience will be on display this fall in Fair Park; Mark Cuban donated $1 million to Dallas Police; watch a rocket launch in West Texas; and more.

She was born in 1989. She signed a record deal in 2005, won a Grammy in 2010 and dominated pop in 2014. In 2016? She’ll be at the State Fair of Texas.

No, no. Taylor Swift won’t be there at the Hall of Statein the flesh. But her light blue Reem Acra gown worn at AT&T Stadium in Arlington during the ACM Awards 50th anniversary will. For die-hard fans, that may or may not be enough.

The Taylor Swift Experience is a traveling exhibition of the pop icon’s costumes, photos and instruments that takes fans and perhaps people who live under rocks through her musical journey. The collection was on display for nearly a year at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, and come Sept. 30, it will reside in the historic Hall of State building in Fair Park for four weeks. The State Fair officials seem pretty excited.

“Regardless of age or musical preference, visitors will gain a better understanding of Taylor’s achievements that led her to super-stardom and her impact on the entertainment industry worldwide.”

There are other notable, Texas-centric attractions sharing the Hall of State space, including artifacts from each of the six countries that flew flags over Texas and an exhibit about the American West and its prevalence in Texas culture. [Texas State Fair]

  • Mark Cuban plans to donate $1 million to Dallas Police in response to the Orlando nightclub shooting. The money will be earmarked for an estimated 16,000 hours of Dallas police overtime to be used for “counterterrorism efforts,” including more police in the Oak Lawn area, according to a press release. Dallas Police Chief David Brown plans to use the funds “primarily to protect the LGBT community.” Police are amping security across major cities, especially in LGBT communities.

  • Blue Origin will live stream a rocket launch from its test site in West Texas for the first time ever Sunday. Originally the launch was scheduled for Friday, but founder Jeff Bezos tweeted saying repair was needed on the private spaceflight company’s New Shepard rocket. The company aims to be more transparent about its projects, hence the live stream, but it’s never allowed reporters into its West Texas facility, Marfa Public Radio reported. Blue Origin is expected to give more details on the launch, including an ETA of lift off. The stream will be available on Blue Origin’s website.
  • Frame of Mind, a series of Texas-made independent films, will be rebroadcast this summer on KERA TV. The 2015 season premiere, “Art — A Personal Journey With Quin Mathews” will air tonight at 10 p.m. Mathews is a filmmaker and journalist  who has interviewed more than a thousand artists and musicians over the course of his decades-long career. From Art&Seek: “In this program, Mathews takes us to Cuba, China, Dallas, Latvia, France and elsewhere sharing segments from some of his favorite documentary projects and introducing us to artists and the meaning behind their work.” Frame of Mind is a co-production between KERA’s Art&Seek and the Video Association of Dallas. New episodes from the third season will run this fall. [Art&Seek]

  • Even Bob Weir of Grateful Dead had something to say about Dan Patrick’s “Man reaps what he sows” tweet. Closing his show at Bonnaroo Sunday night, the guitarist lambasted Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick for posting the now-deleted tweet hours after the shooting a gay nightclub in Orlando. “Is there a difference between that mindset and the mindset of the folks in the Taliban or ISIS?” Weird asked festival-goers. “The hatred and intolerance is the same. They may pull it out of different books, but it’s the same f------ thing.” Patrick responded the same day saying the tweet was scheduled the previous Thursday. [Fort Worth Star-Telegram]
