Dallas, TX – Dallas City Council members say they want streets repaired, libraries and recreation centers open, and cultural programs funded - even with a 79 million dollar budget shortfall.

Mayor Dwaine Caraway says it's a tall order.

Caraway: I do not have any intention of raising taxes. I want us to know that it's my intention to find new money.

Caraway says that could be in the form of new or higher fees for city services, or in advertising "naming rights" on city property.

City Manager Mary Suhm says she's looking at all that. Suhm says jobs will be cut. 450 city employees could be affected. She says health insurance costs are going up significantly for employees, and pay raises are off the table again.
