Big Tex Gets A "Voter Approved" New Shirt

By BJ Austin, KERA News

Dallas, TX – Big Tex is getting a new shirt for this year's State Fair, opening September 30th.

Since 1997, Dickies has designed a new shirt for Big Tex every three years. And for the first time this year, 22 thousand Facebook "voters" picked the winning design. Misty Otto says 2 weeks of voting ended yesterday.

Otto: And the overwhelming winner this year was design number three, which has a red body, navy sleeves and red cuffs. And a navy yoke on the back with a red star on the back. So, we're really excited about it.

The winning design won with 56% of the vote.

By the way, the pattern for Big Tex's shirt is 600 times larger than a normal western shirt.
