No Re-election Race for FB Mayor

By BJ Austin

Dallas, TX – Farmers Branch Mayor Tim O'Hare is not seeking re-election. He led the city's controversial crackdown on illegal immigration that garnered national attention.

O'Hare and his wife are expecting their first child any day now. He says he wants more "family time."

O'Hare: It's been a tough decision, but we think, as a family, that it's the right decision. And, I can take comfort in this decision knowing that we are leaving the city in outstanding hands.

O'Hare's five council colleagues, in attendance, confirmed they would continue to pursue the city's anti-illegal immigrant policies - now before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Longtime Farmers Branch resident Kathleen Matsumura says she was told the news conference at the city Recreation Center was by invitation only - and was not allowed in. She believes it's because she is an outspoken critic of Mayor O'Hare's immigration policies.

Matsumura says she anxious to see who will run for Mayor. O'Hare says he has already given his support to a candidate, but declined to make that announcement today.
